 HAPPY 111TH BIRTHDAY HARRY PATCH

HARRY PATCH, the last survivor of the trench warfare of the First World War, is 111 today. He is the author, with Richard Van Emden, of THE LAST FIGHTING TOMMY, of which Bloomsbury have sold more than 350,000 copies. Harry must be the world's oldest first time author and I am honoured to represent this self-deprecating, wise and noble man. No wonder the nation has fallen in love with you Harry!

 LITERARY FESTIVAL TIME!

The agency's authors are busy at literary fesitvals this summer. Johnny Kingdom spoke to a packed audience at the du Maurier festival in Fowey in early May; Kevin McCloud, 'Netmums' founder Siobhan Freegard and healthy eating guru Judith Wills all appeared at the Hay Festival last week and Elspeth Thompson, Ros Badger and Prue Leith will be at Dartington 'Way With Word' festival next month. All these authors are in the midst of writing new books and I salute their dedication to their fans!

RIBBLESTROP PUBLISHED TO WONDERFUL GUARDIAN REVIEW

RIBBLESTROP is the first childrens' novel that the agency has handled in our 22 years. Andy Mulligan, its debut author, used to teach my son which is how it came my way and it is the most glorious adventure and quite brilliantly written. It is published today by Simon and Schuster, who have an outstanding childrens' list and the first review - from Philip Ardagh in Saturday's Guardian describes it as
'A blast of fresh air' and 'disgracefully dangerous high-octane fun of the highest order; an outrageous delight'.

Congratulations to Andy - and also on the great website launched today at www.ribblestrop.co.uk

GREAT RECEPTION OF PRUE LEITH'S NOVEL

Prue Leith's novel for her new publisher Quercus is getting widespread review coverage - and great sales.

CHORAL SOCIETY is described by the Daily Express as 'Sophie Kinsella for grown-ups' and ' an uplifting tribute to female friendship' - Good Housekeeping. Prue is doing the rounds of literary festivals, where she is tremendously popular, and there is an encouraging amount of film interest. She is Author of the Day at the London Bookfair on 22nd April

 THE WOLFMAN CLEANS UP

Shaun Ellis, widely known as 'the Wolfman' from the original National Geographic documentary, is writing the story of his extraordinary life and discoveries about wolfpack behaviour with best-selling author (and dog owner) Penny Junor. Rights were sold in the US in the New Year (Harmony) for $200,000 and were sold this week to Carole Tonkinson at HarperCollins in a six figure deal. Sally Riley of Aitken Alexander who handles the agency's translation rights has made pre-emptive sales to Holland (Forum), Italy (Rizzoli) and Germany (Arkana).
