 WELCOME BACK

September vanished in a mountain of e-mails. Emerging, the great news is that Andy Mulligan's novel RETURN TO RIBBLESTROP was shortlisted on Saturday for the Guardian Children's Fiction prize. Congratulations to Andy as this is possibly the most prestigious award for YA writing in the UK and the most career-defining. Fingers crossed for the announcement on 10th November.

 SEW OVER IT

Well not everyone in publishing disappears to Treyarnon and Tuscany in August ...there were enough people in their offices this month to provide an exciting bidding war for Lisa Comfort. The new queen of sewing, her shop,' Sew Over It,'  in Clapham is a hugely popular destination. Lisa represents the new generation of under thirties, whose mothers didn't have craft skills to pass on. She has been a passionate sewer since she was a child and her enthusiasm and dedication have made a great impression on publishers. Ebury won out with a very lucrative two-book deal. Read Lisa's blog on www.sewoverit.com.,

GUARDIAN CHILDREN'S BOOK LONGLIST FOR ANDY MULLIGAN

Andy Mulligan's latest novel for 10+, RETURN TO RIBBLESTROP, has been selected as one of 8 longlisted titles for the Guardian's prestigious award. It's a thrilling, joyful, wildly imaginative story with the most wonderful cast of characters. It is hugely exciting to see Andy's writing career develop. And TRASH is to be filmed next year with Stephen Daldry directing.

 EXORCISING HITLER

And congratulations to Fred Taylor for a barnstorming talk at the Hay festival earlier this week. All 450 seats sold and queues for returns - and all books sold out too. He is a brilliant speaker with the ability to make complicated history come alive. He's just shown me the idea for is next book which I believe will be another international bestseller. A good start to spring!
