HOUSE OF COMMONS RELAUNCH FOR THE PACT

A tremendous gathering at the press bar of the House of Commons for the very smart re-issue by Faber Finds of Alistair Michie and the late Simon Hoggart's 1978 book THE PACT; THE INSIDE STORY OF THE LIB-LAB GOVERNMENT 1977-78.

Lords Hattersely and Steel both contributed forewords and it's wonderful to have this very relevant piece of political history available again. All political advisors should get a copy now!

 A WILD LIFE

A good week for that exciting moment when you see an idea become a book - in this case MARTIN HUGHES-GAMES' memoir of his adventures filming wildlife. Martin is known to a TV audience from Springwatch and Autumnwatch on BBC but he spent many years behind the camera and he is a very gifted writer. This is his first book and he manages to combine a natural talent as a raconteur with fascinating material on wildlife, so one learns a huge amount without realising it. Corsair publish in April.

 GALLIPOLI

Just seen copies of RICHARD VAN EMDEN's brilliant new book - a companion volume to TOMMY'S WAR. Published to mark the centenary of the doomed Dardanelles campaign, the book contains harrowing, moving and sometimes darkly humorous personal accounts written by soldiers with 130 photographs taken by the servicemen themselves , most previously unpublished. It's Richard's ninth book for Bloomsbury and establishes him firmly as the pre-eminent historian of WW1.
